This is the version that encodes to MPEG 2 format. They have newer software that encodes to h. I do it but it doesn’t work. Which I can’t find anywhere not even for purchase download from the contents of Roxio. It sounds like you have the PC version of this device and not the Mac version. If it doesn’t say “for Mac” it doesn’t work on a Mac.
But it only works with the “for Mac” device. I was surprised by your original post because it is only sold with the software included. That link you posted is for the Windows device not the Mac.
